This is a tool to match Wikdata authors to Open Library authors. We do this so OpenLibrary show more data on the author field and so that Wikidata has more information about authors. A complete match requires two steps:
- Step 1: Add the Open Library author ID to the Wikidata record
- Step 2: Add the Wikidata author ID to the Open Library record
- What should I do if there are duplicate authors on Open Library?
- Update the oldest record: Ideally, select the oldest author record and update it with any missing or new information.
- Use the record with the most works: If updating the oldest record is not feasible (it's hard to find), add the information to the author record that has the most works associated with it and report the duplicates.
- Report duplicates: If you're unable to resolve the issue, use the "Contact Us" link at the bottom of any Open Library page to report the duplicate authors.
For librarians: You have the option to merge duplicate author records yourself or request a merge if needed.
- What should I do if an author has works that seem to belong to another author with the same name?
-
A few options:
- Report it, as above.
- Try to fix it following the librarian guidelines here https://openlibrary.org/librarians.
The general process is to move the works for one of the authors to another author record.
